The birth of a new baby is a significant time for the whole family. It is a time of great celebration as parents, siblings, and the extended family joyfully welcome a new addition into their home and their hearts.
Infants are also welcomed with joy into the life of the Church through the Sacrament of Baptism, through which we all become God’s adopted children.
Godparents, with the parents, make the baptismal promises on behalf of the child, and assist the parents in ensuring the formation of the child in the Christian faith as he or she grows.
Families are supported in the preparation of baptism for their children by the Parish Priest, and other parishioners. Some Parish communities have Baptism Preparation teams who meet the families before the baptism and support them through the process. They can be important links between the family and the community as they keep contact with them after the Baptism.
